This used to be a question that was easy to answer.
When I first started out in photography I only made landscape images, so I guess at that time I was a landscape photographer?
About five years ago I bought a macro lens for close-up work, so did I also become a macro photographer?
Two years ago I bought a long telephoto lens to help capture images of deer, so maybe then I became a wildlife photographer?
In the summer of 2014 I tried a technique called intentional camera movement so now I was an abstract photographer too?
A year ago I delved into long exposure photography with neutral density filters, so could I now consider myself a fine art photographer?
Probably a long way to go on that one!
In spring of last year I became obsessed with bluebells, so was I now a flower photographer?
In the middle of summer I grew an interest in street photography when previously I had never even wanted to try it, so did I switch to become a street photographer?
Also in summer I really enjoyed a group portrait session with a model when I used to have zero interest in photographing people, so did I suddenly become a portrait photographer?
Some photographers seem to carve out a niche for themselves in a certain genre, but the truth is I’m not any one of these and I’m not only all of these.
I’m just a photographer who enjoys capturing images of the things I see around me!
